Biohaven's anti-myostatin/activin fusion protein being tested as a standalone weight-loss drug, with a Phase 2 obesity readout expected in the second half of 2026.
Overview
Taldefgrobep alfa binds myostatin and blocks activin receptor signaling. It missed in a Phase 3 for spinal muscular atrophy, but healthy-volunteer data showed lower fat mass and higher lean mass, and Biohaven fully enrolled a roughly 150-person Phase 2 obesity trial (weekly and monthly autoinjector) in March 2026. It is the first myostatin-pathway drug tested for weight loss without a GLP-1 partner.
Mechanism of action
Fusion protein that neutralizes myostatin and inhibits activin receptor type II signaling.
