What Buntanetap is

An oral drug that lowers production of amyloid, tau and alpha-synuclein at once, now in an 850-patient Alzheimer's Phase 3 with a symptomatic readout due early 2027.

Buntanetap (Annovis Bio) inhibits translation of three neurotoxic proteins rather than clearing one of them after the fact. A Phase 2/3 was published in 2026, and the pTau217-confirmed Phase 3 fully enrolled in July 2026.

Mechanism: Inhibits the iron-responsive-element-regulated translation of APP, tau and alpha-synuclein mRNAs, reducing levels of all three proteins.

Regulatory history: Investigational; Phase 3

How MHRA treats this kind of product

Licenses medicines for the UK market. A compound without a marketing authorisation is an unlicensed medicine, which can only lawfully be supplied for human use through a prescriber under the specials scheme, not sold as a research product.

The classification above is the The Longevity Archive reading of Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency listings for Buntanetap at the reviewed date, not a legal opinion. Rules change, and importing, prescribing and possessing a compound can each be treated differently. Check the regulator directly before acting on anything here.
