A 12 amino acid peptide discovered by AI-guided prohormone screening at Stanford that cut food intake by up to half in mice and minipigs through a non-GLP-1 pathway; no human trial exists.
Overview
BRP was reported in Nature in March 2025 after an algorithm predicted cleavage products of prohormones. A single injection reduced food intake by as much as 50% over an hour in lean mice and minipigs without the aversion behaviors seen with GLP-1 drugs, acting on hypothalamic POMC neurons. The discoverers formed Merrifield Therapeutics to develop it. As of mid-2026 no human trial is registered, and anything sold under the name is unverified.
Mechanism of action
Activates hypothalamic POMC neurons via cAMP-PKA-CREB signaling, a pathway distinct from the GLP-1 receptor.
